The physiognomist "reads" the emotions and character of a person by the features of his face. There are several directions in physiognomy: the classical one is that according to certain parameters of the face - the shape of the nose, lips, the fit of the eyebrows, the location of the wrinkles - they determine the character of a person. I am a mimic physiognomist, I read by facial expressions what people show at the moment of a conversation. I am more interested in emotions, but the face and character are displayed.

How did you become a physiognomist?

My first education was in economics, specializing in management of organizations. I combine professions. In principle, if I were a lawyer or a marketer, then these specialties with psychological education would also very well combine and complement each other. I studied psychology and began to get involved in the fact that I watched people, I saw that at some moments they hide information, do not talk, try to manipulate me, and as a psychologist I need to understand what happens to a person, especially when married couples come to me ... For me physiognomy has become an advanced training, a way to learn to read people.

There are no faculties, special courses in physiognomy in our institutes. The base was training at the university, where we got acquainted with the books of Alan Pisa. I also took an NLP course, which includes calibration, reading a person's emotions. Then there was purely self-education: I read books by Alan Pease and Paul Ekman, watched a huge amount of video materials, analyzed descriptions of psychiatric diseases, how they affect the face and body of a person, as well as criminal cases. And then - observations, since I am very critical, if I read something, then it is not at all necessary that I believed it. You should always test your knowledge in practice. Now I have my own courses and trainings on emotions and physiognomy, in addition to being a practicing psychologist.

Do the police contact you for advice?

No. I have several acquaintances who previously served in the SBU, in the police, and we communicate, but they turned to me for advice very rarely, only twice. Unfortunately, the police are not interested in the consultations of the physiognomist.

What skills and abilities do you need in your job?

Observation and critical thinking are extremely important. In no case should you draw conclusions right away, but you need to observe the person and check the preliminary conclusions. And then - to treat your paranoia. Such observation makes you follow people, so it is important that she does not go the other way and turn against you. You need to be an adequate person, close your eyes and rest.

Have you come across notorious liars in your practice?

There are many skillful liars in our society. If a person is constantly in sight, is a leader, then he has to regularly lie, cover up his weaknesses or strengths, and he becomes a professional liar, believes in his lies and turns into what he is lying about. It's hard to say if something surprises me, sometimes I'm scared for people and what is happening in their lives. But I have not seen a person who does not lie in his life.

How many of your business clients are men and women?

Among businessmen, I have more male clients, and it is more important for them to be able to read a person, to understand him. There was one woman who grew up the career ladder, she was very interested and in the end these skills helped her. But men are more interested in such things, they are probably more structural. And men are good at reading characters if they practice this skill. They have no idea of ​​intuitive understanding, like women, but there is a clear structuring of knowledge: what does this wrinkle mean, how the eye went, the movement of the nodule. They remember the algorithm and know where to look. And women perceive their surroundings more emotionally, and when I ask them how they know something, they often answer me how they feel. But my thinking is analytical, and such answers do not suit me.

Are there any regularities in the change in the pattern of the face, facial expressions with age?

By the age of 40, we get the face we deserve. Those emotions that we most often used are laid on our face. If there was some kind of strong shock in a person's life, then very deep emotional states can be laid that last for decades. They can be edited on the face, but this is a serious and long-term inner work.

If we see a clearly oblique face, but not from a stroke or congenital asymmetry, but from emotions, mimically: one eyebrow is higher than the other, the nasolabial fold is more prominent on one side than on the other, a sharp difference in facial wrinkles on the right and left sides, then we see a liar, and an obvious one, who lies a lot to the world and to himself. Because with us, the left side of the face expresses what we feel inside, and the right side expresses what we show to the world.

Look at older people: you can immediately identify those who smiled a lot in their lives. They have a lot of wrinkles and they are special. And there are sad, gloomy faces of people who did not smile: with pursed lips, with transverse wrinkles on their lips - they squeezed them aggressively a lot. Aggression is not always a bad thing, because a purposeful person cannot be non-aggressive. The correct use of our internal resources gives us the opportunity to achieve a lot in the world. But I always say: do not be afraid of your wrinkles, just look at yourself in the mirror, and your face will more often tell you about what is happening in your life, and what you need to do if you want a different face.

How much truth is there in The Theory of Lies?

There is a lot of useful information and adequately conveyed subtle points. I have not watched the entire series, but at the beginning it is very sensible, correct. There are, of course, simulated emotions, but the professional nuances are conveyed correctly.

What's your typical working day?

It's hard to say, my working days are very different. I put all plans in the schedule on the phone, and since I work actively, it turns out to be intense - meetings, trips, consultations. Most often I do not have days off, as trainings take place on weekends. Therefore, I set the weekend, usually in the middle of the week. In the morning, my working day can begin with a consultation, filming or working on a computer with accumulated requests, preparation for training. During the day, I try to allocate at least two hours for myself - it can be dancing, manicure or a walk - it's a great happiness for me. But I do not have consultations every day - otherwise I would not have had time to live life.

The pros and cons of your job?

I love my job and I just live it. Most of all I am fascinated by people, I always liked to deal with people, to help them. Probably, like everyone who went through a rather difficult childhood and adolescence, he independently stood on his feet. If you went through this and remained a man, and do not take revenge on the whole world, then you will quickly lend a helping hand to other people. This is my main task, I like it.

I had a case when a client resisted very much, did not want to work, and in the end said that I had not helped her in any way. It was a long time ago and it hurt me a lot. But it was a very good lesson: when a person dumps responsibility on you, you don't have to take it upon yourself, like the nasty things that he said to you. When I overestimated the situation, I felt very sorry for this client.

How to deal with stress?

I live in it. Since 2000, I have been studying psychology, although I received my diploma in psychology later. When you start living in this rhythm, you no longer understand how it could be otherwise. This is not to say that I work or rest all the time, this is just my life.

What are you inspired by?

I am inspired by people. God showed a good sense of humor in giving me this skill. In ordinary life, as a rule, I don’t say anything to a person - if he didn’t ask, then he doesn’t need it. But all the same, I analyze it and at the same time what is happening in me. Sometimes I laugh at myself, because I could have turned off this skill. Sometimes I generally try not to look at people, so as not to "catch" their feelings and emotions. I walked through the store, and there the girl was trying on shoes, showing them to her boyfriend. I casually glanced at him and immediately realized: he didn't give a damn about her and her shoes so much! And she so wanted him to like it! In such situations, I immediately understand what is happening, but I turn away, it does not concern me. And this is another professional deformation.

There is a lot of talk about emotional intelligence these days. Don't you think this is just another fashion?

I don't fully understand what people mean by emotional intelligence. If we are talking about empathy, the ability to feel the emotions of another person, this is understandable. It is bad for another - you feel it, just like his joy, or when it closes, you think how to open it so that you are comfortable around. But what is "emotional intelligence", what are its components, besides empathy? Until we have a clear definition, we cannot discuss it. I am a very practical person, I like specifics. I always ask people what they mean, even by seemingly simple things like manipulation. I need to imagine a specific situation so that I do not think it over, and there is no conversation about different things.

What should be done by those who want to become a physiognomist?

First you need to ask yourself the question: why do you need this? If you want to "read" a lie or expose your loved ones, then it is better not to go to psychology for this, otherwise you will ruin your life. If you want to study physiognomy in order to help people deal with a situation, to understand how to get out of it, then you need to do this. If you want to catch a hand, "bring to clean water", then it is better to go to the police.
